Acle Mens A Team needed 3 points from the last two games to gain their third County Championship. A dash down the Acle Straight and negotiating the strange road markings on the Gapton Hall roundabout meant the first of these games was against Browston. John Marshall, Petor Cator, Patrick Willimott and Tim Stone were 62 up at 5 ends but by 11 ends the opposition skipped by Peter Hurren had come back to 119, by 15 it was 1311and from here the Acle lads took charge and went on to win 2311. Rob Fulcher, Bernard Willimott, Daniel Noble and Lewis Moore were drawn against Lewis, Dad Vic Moore and honours were even at 9 ends 7 each, by 14 it was 109, at this point age made a difference with the Acle youths going 189 at 18 and winning 1912. Mark Elliott, Wyn Willimot, Denis Goodley and Tony Dunton were 9 each at 10 ends, 1315 at 15 and with 3 ends to play Trevor Gowens rink looked confident at 14 8, but conjuror Tony scored a 5 on the 19th and another 5 on the 21st and won 2418. Ian Willimott, Arthur Joliffe, Jamie Howlett and George Tubby looked good at 9 ends 138 up but dropped a 5 to Dennis Pratts rink on the 10th, at 13 ends it was 2113, the final 8 ends were closely contested and the game finished 2319. Result:- Won away to Browston, 60-89 and all 7 points This result gives Acle the Norfolk County Championship for the second year running and with a game in hand.
